Our Philosophy

Growing the Whole Child with Heart and Hope

Inspired by the spirit and teachings of Virginia Satir

At Dr. Hardin’s Literacy Garden, we believe that children who carry the diagnosis of dyslexia are not broken—they are beautifully, uniquely wired. Their brains process the world differently, and that difference is not a problem to fix but a strength to nurture.

Rooted in the growth-centered teachings of Virginia Satir, our approach supports more than reading. We care for the whole child—their heart, mind, relationships, and self-worth.

We know that struggling readers often carry invisible burdens: anxiety, shame, or self-doubt. Many begin to question their intelligence or value. Here, we nurture a new story—one where your child is seen, heard, and empowered to flourish, not only as a student but as a confident and connected human being.

What Grounds and Grows Us

Every Child Has Worth—Just as They Are
Your child is not defined by a diagnosis or a reading score. They are resourceful, creative, and capable—even if traditional methods haven’t worked for them yet. We help children discover their strengths and use those strengths to learn in ways that truly fit.

Learning Grows in Safe, Loving Soil

Learning doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it happens when a child feels emotionally safe and accepted. We create a warm, non-judgmental space where children feel free to take risks, make mistakes, and try again. When they feel safe, we find their brains open up to growth.

Relationships Are the Roots of Learning

At the heart of all meaningful change is connection. We build strong, trusting relationships with each child and their family. Whether in person or online, our instructors lead with empathy and respect. We partner with you—because no one knows your child better than you do.

Mistakes Are Steppingstones

Children experiencing the symptoms of dyslexia often develop a fear of failure. We help your child shift their mindset—because growth, not perfection, is the goal. As Satir believed, every challenge is a chance to grow. We teach children that making mistakes is how we learn, and that trying again is a sign of strength.

Self-Worth Is the Foundation of Success

Reading fluency is important, but so is helping your child experience themselves as valuable. Our sessions are designed to build confidence, resilience, and emotional intelligence. When children believe in their own worth, everything else begins to flourish.

More Than a Program—A Place to Grow

At Dr. Hardin’s Literacy Garden, we believe learning differences deserve learning dignity. Your child deserves to feel pleased with who they are—and hopeful about who they are becoming. Using the Multisensory Teaching Approach based in the Science of Reading and the compassionate, systemic lens of the Satir model, we help children with the diagnosis of dyslexia grow in skill, spirit, and confidence.

Let’s tend this garden together—nurturing your child’s growth academically, emotionally, and personally. Their strengths are seeds full of promise. With the right care, support, and sunlight, they will bloom in ways we can only imagine
